Women's Health Rotation
Goodrich Pharmacy St Francis has offered a Women's Health rotation since 2005 through the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. The rotation focuses on issues encountered over a woman's lifespan, including contraception, pregnancy, and menopause. In addition, topics such as cardiac disease, migraines, and hyper/hypothyroidism are also covered with a focus on the female experience.
The rotation topics are divided into modules with a test to measure pre-existing knowledge and to help focus the student's studies, suggested readings and activities to build knowledge, and case studies to help the student apply knowledge learned. The rotation was developed out of our experiences with patients, and the realization that some of these topics are not fully covered in classroom work. Our goal is to prepare a student for community practice, so they can confidently field questions from patients, and help them optimize their health.
Because of our extensive involvement in the community, the student may also have the chance to participate in health screenings, flu shot clinics, or presentations to collegues or other audiences (based on which block the student is scheduled for). In addition, we also provide Medication Management Services paid for by several third party insurances, giving the student a chance to use their training for direct patient care.
